Ghana: 47 Illegal Miners Arrested At Asamama.

The Akyem – Kwabeng Police in collaboration with the Anti- Galamsey taskforce “Operation Vanguard” have arrested 47 illegal mining operators in the Atiwa West District of the Eastern Region.

The suspects who are currently in police custody are believed to be Niger and Burkina Faso Nationals.

The suspects whose ages range from 16 to 35 years were gripped at Asamama, busily mining illegally upon a tip-off by the Atiwa West District Security Council.

District Chief Executive Officer for Kwabeng, Hon. Isaac Akomeang Asamoah told our Eastern regional Rep, Kofi Michel the armed men were able to retrieve; forty – eight(48) complete set of gold detecting machines, eight new batteries, two headsets, forty – one (41) pickaxes, 69,000 CFA, and an amount of Ghc 6,155.00.

The suspects are currently in Police custody assisting in an investigation.
